Crested geckos have become increasingly popular as captivating and low-maintenance pets, particularly for those new to reptile keeping. Originating from New Caledonia, these arboreal creatures are celebrated for their vibrant colours, distinctive crests along their heads, and remarkable ability to climb. One of the notable advantages of keeping crested geckos is their manageable size, typically ranging from 7 to 9 inches in length. Setting up a suitable terrarium involves providing vertical space with branches, foliage, and hiding spots to mimic their natural forest habitat. Crested geckos are omnivores, primarily feeding on a powdered diet mixed with water, supplemented occasionally with small insects.
Their docile temperament makes them suitable for handling, although they may prefer to observe their surroundings from elevated perches. With a lifespan of around 15 to 20 years, proper care and attention to temperature and humidity levels contribute to the well-being of crested geckos, making them an enjoyable and rewarding addition to the world of reptile enthusiasts.
