Painted chorus frogs (Microhyla butleri) are small, vibrant amphibians found in Southeast Asia. They are named for their distinctive, colourful markings, which vary across individuals. Typically inhabiting lowland forests and agricultural areas, these frogs are known for their loud, distinctive calls during the breeding season, which often occur after rain. Painted chorus frogs are nocturnal, hiding under leaf litter or in burrows during the day. They primarily feed on small insects and other invertebrates. Despite their small size, these frogs play a significant role in controlling insect populations and maintaining ecological balance in their habitats.
