Hermann's Tortoise, Testudo hermanni, is a charming reptile native to Southern Europe, known for its small size and distinctive markings. With a lifespan of 60-70 years, these herbivorous tortoises typically grow 6-8 inches in shell length. Their shells display intricate patterns and hues, ranging from yellow to dark brown. Well-suited to dry, rocky habitats, they are highly adaptable but face challenges due to habitat loss and illegal pet trade. Hermann's Tortoises are active during warm daylight hours, often burrowing to escape extreme temperatures.
