The Sulcata Tortoise, also known as the African spurred tortoise, is one of the largest species of tortoise, native to the Sahel region of Africa. Recognizable for its distinctive, heavily-ridged shell, it's a symbol of resilience in arid environments. With a diet primarily consisting of grasses and plants, they are crucial in controlling vegetation growth, impacting ecosystem balance. Despite their slow pace, they are formidable diggers, excavating deep burrows to escape extreme temperatures. Their longevity, often exceeding a century, makes them cherished companions in captivity.
