The African bullfrog, Pyxicephalus adspersus, is a formidable amphibian native to sub-Saharan Africa. It ranks among the largest frog species globally. With females reaching sizes of over eight inches in diameter, these frogs are robust and possess powerful jaws. Known for their voracious appetite, they consume a diverse diet, including insects, small vertebrates, and even other amphibians. Renowned for their distinctive vocalizations during the breeding season, male African bullfrogs produce deep, resonant calls. Burrowers by nature, they spend dry periods underground, emerging during the rainy season for breeding and feeding activities.
