Helmeted chameleons (Trioceros hoehnelii) are fascinating reptiles native to the highland forests and savannas of East Africa, particularly in Kenya and Uganda. Known for the distinctive casque-like structure on their heads, which resembles a helmet, these chameleons use it to regulate water during rainfall and for visual communication. They are medium-sized, typically growing to about 10-12 inches in length, including their tails. Helmeted chameleons are arboreal, spending most of their lives in trees where their excellent camouflage helps them avoid predators. Like other chameleons, they have independently rotating eyes and a projectile tongue used for catching prey. They thrive in humid environments and are popular among reptile enthusiasts due to their vibrant colours and unique appearance.
