The Club Tailed Iguana, also known as the Five Keeled Spiny-tailed Iguana, is a species native to the arid regions of Mexico and Central America, thriving in diverse habitats ranging from rocky outcrops and tropical dry forests to coastal areas. Recognizable for its robust build and distinctive spiky tail, this species is adapted to a semi-arboreal lifestyle, displaying excellent climbing and basking abilities. With a preference for dry and sunny environments, these iguanas are often found in utilizing crevices and rock formations for shelter.
When housed as pets, they require spacious enclosures with adequate basking areas, UVB lighting, and a temperature gradient to mimic their natural habitat. A well-balanced diet that includes a variety of greens, vegetables, and insects is essential for their health. It's crucial to provide a secure and stimulating environment with climbing structures, hiding spots, and proper substrate.
