The name "collared" comes from the distinctive band around their neck, which can be raised during displays of aggression or courtship. When adult, males develop a beauiful yellow/blue colour whilst females develop a bright orange colouration around their necks before breeding. Creating a suitable habitat involves providing a spacious and well-ventilated enclosure with a substrate that allows for digging and hiding. Eastern Collared Lizards are diurnal, requiring access to basking areas with the appropriate temperature gradient. Their diet primarily consists of insects, supplemented with occasional vegetables and fruits. It's essential to offer UVB lighting to support their calcium metabolism.

While they can be territorial, Eastern Collared Lizards can become accustomed to gentle handling, making them enjoyable pets for those willing to invest time in their care. Providing a balanced diet, a proper environment, and regular veterinary check-ups contribute to the health and well-being of these captivating lizards in captivity.
