Scorpio maurus, commonly known as the Israeli gold scorpion, is a striking arachnid species native to the Middle East, particularly found in Israel and neighbouring regions. This scorpion is renowned for its robust build, typically measuring around 6-7 centimetres in length, with a distinctive golden-brown to yellowish colouration. Its body is adorned with granular texture and has pronounced pincers, complemented by a venomous tail capable of delivering a potent sting. S. maurus is nocturnal, preferring dry and arid habitats, where it hunts insects and small vertebrates. Despite its intimidating appearance, its venom is seldom life-threatening to humans, though caution is always advised.
