Marginated tortoises (Testudo marginata) are the largest species of tortoises native to Europe. Known for their distinctive flared rear marginals, which give the shell a skirt-like appearance, they inhabit rocky hillsides and scrublands in Greece and surrounding areas. These tortoises are herbivorous, feeding primarily on a variety of wild plants. They are well-adapted to dry environments, brumating during the winter months.
