Koch’s giant day gecko (Phelsuma kochi) is a striking species of diurnal gecko native to Madagascar and the nearby islands of the Indian Ocean. It is one of the larger members of the Phelsuma genus, reaching lengths of up to 25 cm (10 inches). This gecko is known for its vibrant green coloration, often with red or blue markings, which helps it blend into the tropical foliage where it resides. Being arboreal, it primarily inhabits trees and bamboo forests, where it feeds on insects, nectar, and fruit. Unlike many geckos, P. kochi is active during the day, using its keen eyesight and agility to hunt. It is also capable of regenerating lost tails as a defense mechanism against predators.
